How to Buy an FLX Damper – Fixing a Built-in Closet Damper, Repairing a Closet Door That Slams

One day, the door of the built-in closet in the master bedroom started closing with a loud thud.

At first I thought we could just close it gently and didn’t bother fixing it, but after my wife almost got her hand caught in the door, I decided it absolutely had to be repaired.

First, I removed the damper to find out where I could buy a replacement.

The manufacturer of the damper is FLX, and the length was about 262 mm.

I was curious what was actually wrong, so I tried disassembling it once as well.

One side of the white plastic piece inside had broken, so the damper no longer functioned when the door opened.

I thought I might be able to fix it if I could just get that inner plastic part.

1. Where to Buy an FLX Damper

At first I assumed I’d find it on Coupang or other online shopping malls, so I searched really hard for an FLX damper.

But all I could find were full rail sets being sold, or ads from furniture repair companies.

I eventually found the information I needed on a Naver blog and on YouTube.

With all the scams these days I was suspicious at first, but there was an identical video on YouTube as well.

When I called, they gave me the number for their work mobile phone.

I was able to get information about the damper through that number.

In the photo below, the one on the left is a standard damper and the one on the right is a middle damper.

The one that broke in our house was the model on the left.

I ordered a left-side damper, which holds the door on the left.

Unfortunately, they said it’s not possible to purchase only the inner white plastic part.

The price was 15,000 won + 7,000 won cash-on-delivery shipping, for a total of 22,000 won.

But seriously, what’s with that shipping cost?

Now all that was left was to do the repair.

2. Repairing the Built-in Closet Door

The damper I ordered arrived in just two days.

All you need to do is remove the old damper and install the new one.

Just position the metal plate correctly and tighten it with screws.

3. Review

After fixing it like this, the door no longer slams shut, which is great.

I learned what a damper is for the first time, and I also learned that there are items you simply can’t buy on the internet.

Having done it once, I think the next repair will be really easy.
